It’s common to need to setup a new tool for use in the Tormach.

Step 1: Load the tool into a TTS Toolholder

You’ll need to locate an empty TTS Toolholder which matches the diameter of the tool. Some holders are fixed diameters (listed on the body) while others can accept an ER Collet to adjust the holding size.

Ensure the holder, tool and collet (if using) are clean and free of debris/chips.

Load the collet into the tool (if using), then the tool into the tool holder. At least 20mm of the shank needs to be into the holder but the further the tool is in the holder the better.

Tighten the tool holder using the wrenches (ER Collet) or an allen key.

Step 2: Measure the gauge length of the TTS Toolholder

Using the height gauge and surface plate (usually located with the Tormach, sometimes located elsewhere in the workshop) measure the distance between the TTS Shoulder and the tip of the tool.

Step 3: Input the correct information into PathPilot

In the PathPilot Offsets page, under tools, create a new entry for the tool. Hovering over the input boxes will highlight the naming convention. Make sure to note the number of flutes, length, diameter and material (usually Carbide or HSS).

Make sure to label the tool holder to match the assigned name within pathpilot.
